Our 2025 Shake Ridge Ranch Mourvèdre Rosé comes from the uppermost portion of I-Block, which is the only Mourvèdre on the front ranch (the original plantings from 2003) and I think perhaps the steepest block planted at Shake Ridge. It is certainly an auspicious place for Mourvèdre: our vines are rooted in thin, rocky top-soil with a gorgeous view of the setting sun, sheltered by dappled shade thanks for Ann’s meticulous canopy management as always.

If our Grenache Rosé from Sky is a symphonic overture – a bold and thundering introduction, dramatic in intensity, with contrasting tempo sections and a brilliant, energetic finale – then our Mourvèdre Rosé from Shake Ridge Ranch is something more akin to a Chopin ballad or sonata: a lilting lyrical melody with delicate ornamentation, highly emotional, with innovative harmonies, and characterized by technical virtuosity. This is a wine of passion and beauty.
